Deeded weeks at named resorts, and points or trust interests in the club system.
A Marriott week at a specific resort is not the same asset as Marriott Vacation Club points. Weeks are often deeded real estate. Points are commonly a beneficial interest in a trust. Resale points and developer-sold points do not carry the same exchange and reservation rights, which is one reason a resale price and an exit are both harder than owners expect.
Older resorts also pass special assessments. The assessment is a resort cost. It is not forgiven by a conversation about “getting out of the points.”
